OLED Near-Black Banding & Dirty Screen Effect (DSE) Physics

Self-emissive display technologies such as WOLED (White OLED with color filters) and QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) control brightness down to individual pixels. However, at near-black luminance levels (1% to 10% signal gray, or 0.05 to 1.5 nits), minor threshold voltage (Vth) variations across the thin-film transistor (TFT) backplane manifest as visible vertical banding or Dirty Screen Effect (DSE).

Browser & OS Color Management Limitations

Software-based visual evaluation patterns are subject to Web browser color space mapping (sRGB / Display P3), operating system display scaling, ICC profile overrides, and GPU driver settings. While Monitor Test Hub utilizes hardware-accelerated WebGL 2.0 rendering pipelines, browser-based tests cannot fully replace physical hardware colorimeters or spectrophotometers (e.g., Calbrite Display Plus HL, X-Rite i1Display Pro) for color-critical prepress workflows.
